ScriptE/S for Mac
FAQ
-
We currently do not reccommend that you update to Mac OS Sequoia. Our developers are working to ensure compatibility.
-
It is safe to upgrade to Mac OS Sonoma. However, we never recommend updating OS in the middle of a job unless you are having performance issues.
If you do need to update during a job, don’t update in the middle of a shoot day and sync any remote or 2nd unit files with the master file before updating!
Due to new video settings in Sonoma, you need to enable legacy video settings to be able to get screen capture. Please refer to this article on how to give permissions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/108387

ScriptE/S is built to read and analyze each element type in the script. That means that the script needs to be properly formatted for ScriptE/S to be able to read it.
If it crashes upon import, please double check that the script fulfills all these requirements or ask production for a version that:
Has scene numbers
Has locked pages
Has locked a-pages
Has no encryption
Has no watermarks
-
Properly formatted, unencrypted PDF scripts.
Properly formatted Final Draft scripts (with scene numbers and locked pages).
Properly formatted MM Screenwriter scripts (with scene numbers and locked pages).
No matter the format, the script needs to:
Have scene numbers
Have locked pages
Have locked a-pages
Have no encryption
Have no watermarks
-
ScriptE does not support the .mmsw format.
Ask production to send the script as .mmx instead.
The file also needs to
Have scene numbers
Have locked pages
Have locked a-pages
Have no encryption
Have no watermarks
-
Sometimes when you try to import a script, you will get the following error message: “The script must have page numbers. Be sure to Lock the Pages under the Production menu in Final Draft before importing”.
This means that the script that you have been given is not correctly formatted.
To be able to import a script, the script needs to:
Have scene numbers
Have locked pages
Have locked a-pages
Have no encryption
Have no watermarks
You must ask the script coordinator to go into the script editing software and LOCK PAGES, then LOCK A-PAGES and then SAVE the file before sending it to you. You will then be able to import the script.

This happens when the page numeration has changed for some reason, for instance, someone unlocked the script pages between revisions. It’s easy to solve:
Go to the SCRIPT BREAKDOWN VIEW and open the scene.
On the top row, locate the PAGE NUMBER. This indicates the page the SCENE HEADER is located on.
Then open the SCRIPT TAB. On the left hand side of each block of text, you will find the page number that block of text is on. Make sure that the that is the same number as the page number the scene starts on. You might need to change one or the other.
Update the page number by double clicking the block of text and changing the number in the PAGE # BOX at the top of the popup.
The pages need to be in the correct numerical order in order for the lines to show up correctly.
If the problem persists, go through all scenes and see where the page numbering might have gone wrong.
